Horrible Experience with AT&T – Unethical and Deceptive Billing

AT&T has been the absolute worst phone company we have ever dealt with. They have repeatedly charged us for International Day Passes without our permission or any explicit instructions, and every single month, we have to waste our time arguing with their customer service to remove these fraudulent charges. Their unethical business practices are beyond frustrating, and they show zero accountability for their deceptive billing tactics.

This company operates with no integrity, preying on customers by sneaking in unauthorized charges and making it as difficult as possible to get refunds. We have had enough, we will never use or recommend AT&T to anyone. Stay far away unless you enjoy being overcharged and scammed when you travel abroad.

Horrible service and experience. I'm in the Army stationed in Western North Carolina, when Hurricane Helene came through it flooded my entire first floor apartment and I lost everything, including the router I had through AT&T.

When I called AT&T and explained the situation, the representative told me that she annotated it as "lost in a natural disaster" and that I would not be charged the $150.00 non-returned equipment fee.

A month later, I was charged anyway. I was on the phone with three different representatives for nearly an hour and they did not refund me. They said that the equipment had to be returned in a damaged state (which it couldn't be because it floated away in the flood) or had to be claimed on my insurance claim. I've already filed my insurance claim and did not include it because AT&T told me I would not be charged. Even if I did, what if my insurance did not cover flooding?

Amidst everything that has happened, it is absolutely ridiculous that AT&T can't just cancel the charge. Even after I offered to send them a copy of my insurance claim, a letter from my landlord proving my apartment was a total loss, and pictures of my old apartment. All of which would have proved my case that the router was not recoverable.

Safe to say, I will not be using AT&T again and do not recommend them to anyone.

I will never ever recommend AT&T to anyone or ever use them again. I have been dealing with this issue for 6 weeks. My phone has been paid off with AT&T for months now and has it in carrier/sim locked still. I tried putting in a request online to remove it and it shows I am still in an installment plan even though my local store has confirmed I am not in a plan. So they couldn’t assist and said I needed to call advanced tech support. I’ve done this 3 times now, on hold for hours, they submit a request for the back office team to assist because the call center can’t fix the issue. The turn around time is 30 days. All I am trying to do is save money and switch carriers but yet I can’t even get the phone I fully PAID for unlocked! I will Never use AT&T and I will never recommend it to anyone. I have had nothing but problems with them. Horrible company who takes advantage of people.

Disappointing and Stressful Experience with AT&T During a Critical Time

If I could rate a ZERO I would. I’ve been a loyal AT&T customer for over 20 years, but my recent experience has left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. Following major brain surgery, I’ve been going through a challenging recovery period, which has also caused significant financial strain. Unfortunately, I am unable to pay my full $842 past-due balance at this time and reached out to AT&T for support.

When I contacted customer service to request a payment arrangement, I explained my medical situation and the urgent need for assistance. The first representative I spoke with seemed indifferent, failing to grasp the urgency of my situation. Things got worse when a supervisor joined the call—their tone was dismissive and condescending, which only added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time.

What’s most upsetting is that my phone is a lifeline for managing critical medical appointments, including MRI scans, yet I felt unsupported and dismissed. On top of that, the high cost of my current plan is creating a massive financial burden, and AT&T’s lack of empathy has made this situation even harder.

They also charged me $299 to replace my iPad, which was just 12 months and five days old. This was a brand-new iPad that I purchased for over $3,000. Despite explaining the situation and requesting that the fee be waived, they refused to offer any flexibility or assistance.

To make matters worse, the recent data breach has led to a flood of spam and harassment calls, adding to my distress.

I expected more from a company I’ve trusted for over two decades. While I understand the need for businesses to operate efficiently, a compassionate and understanding approach during extraordinary circumstances—like recovering from a major surgery—should be a priority.

I hope AT&T takes this feedback seriously and works to improve how they handle customers facing personal hardships.

It has been an absolute headache since I transferred over to ATT. All of my information was ported over incorrectly, so, essentially both my work phone and personal phone were tangled up. I was not receiving any short codes and most likely lost clients because my VM wasn't working because calls made to my work phone were getting forwarded over to my personal line which did not have a greeting. I was transferred to multiple people, and put on hold for 20 minutes to an hour after each transfer, sometimes put on hold multiple times during one phone call. Or was told they could not help me because it was an Apple problem, and Apple stating its not there problem and being transferred back to ATT. Apparently, ATT is using other countries to curb costs to answer calls and many of them I could not understand. I calculated spending approximately 10 hours spanning weeks trying to get my phones to work properly. Customer service do not seem to be trained well but, they were nice. I have to hand them that.

Subject: Report of Fraudulent Activity by AT&T Sales Representative

Dear AT&T Customer Service,

I am writing to report a fraudulent activity by an AT&T sales representative who approached me and my wife at Walmart. The representative offered us two cell phones with the same plan I had with T-Mobile, at a monthly cost of $10 less than my current plan. The total cost, including taxes, was $120. The offer stated that there would be no upfront payment for the devices; we only needed to switch to AT&T and set up autopay, preferably with a bank account, or a credit card as an alternative. The representative mentioned that the first month's bill would be slightly higher but would then remain at $120 per month.

However, I recently discovered that this offer was a complete fraud. When I contacted AT&T customer service, the representative informed me that they are receiving numerous complaints about similar fraudulent activities by AT&T sales representatives in public places. I have been a loyal T-Mobile customer since 2015 and have never experienced such deceitful practices.

I am deeply disappointed and concerned about how AT&T is misleading and extorting customers in this manner. I will be sharing my experience and videos on various social media platforms to warn others about these fraudulent practices.

If you live in the Asheville, NC area, be aware that if you run across AT&T regional salesman Logan Barrett, you may be scammed. This past August, he came to my house to offer me a free cell phone if I sign up with AT&T; he told me that I only have to pay taxes and for the first 3 months until the promotion would kick in, then I would get reimbursed, and the cellphone would be free. Well, this is not what exactly happened. In fact, I have to pay for my cell phone. I have called Logan, and every time I talk to him, he only apologizes and tells me that he would fix the problem, but he never did it. I have talked to his supervisor, Mr. Conley, but all he has done is forward my messages to Logan since Logan won't get back to me unless he hear from Conley first. Even AT&T headquarters told me that they can't do anything about it, even know they knowledge that I have been scammed and even knowing they are a multi-billion dollar company.
I have been an AT&T customer for decades and I totally didn't expect this; I'm totally disgusted and shocked that a company like AT&T would allow their employees to engage in such business practices.
They are leaving me no other choice than to file a lawsuit and I will discuss this scam with Logan Barrett in the courthouse.

I have been a happy customer with AT&T for over 4year until august this year when their employees colluded to steal cash from me. My company internet was not used for several months so I didn’t pay for it and when I decided to pay I found the account had been suspended. Through my personal account mobile App I got a number to call and I was told my case was in the collection department and to make payment I had to use PayPal as the department was not part of AT&T, I paid $235 and my account was activated immediately. They also told me that they had a promotion going on for iPhone 16 and free internet for a whole year if I paid $ 841.50 in advance which I did. I waiting for them to ship the iPhone which was never shipped and upon inquiring they told me I had to pay further $200 so I became suspicious and went to one of their dealerships. Here it was confirmed the agents were AT&T employees but what they were doing wasn’t legal I was advised to contact their fraud department which I did. After waiting for over 2 months for their investigations they have thrown me under the bus and denied this agent works for them. I have their names and ID numbers which I got from their dealership. Can anyone help? I have 2 other accounts with them and i am contemplating going to a different service provider.
